Hi Gang,

Does anybody know where I can get the metal bracket that holds a PTT switch to the handlebar from, I want to make up a PTT switch for my small PMR radio so I can use it on the bike

Like this bit - wpbc93f6a9.png just the metal bit.

thanks

Don't mean to hijack the thread - please say if you think it does and I'll edit to delete - but on a similar matter whilst I really rate the autocom system, I'm not a fan of the PTT switch itself (I've had them conk out in v bad weather). Has anyone come across a more robust switch which works with the autocom system? PS, I'm not a fan of vox.

Cheers, Will

Im using these for an Aux light switch (in progress) they come in latching on-off or mometary on.

my mate Kompost made this bracket that bolts on next to the left switch gear on the 1150GS

This is what I currently use, its much better than the Autocom switch as it doesn't crowd the handlebar and you can't accidentally leave it on transmit!

I did a write up of how to do it here
http://www.ebbo.org/autocom_ptt_mod.php

But even this isn't ideal, what I really fancy is a small waterproof microswitch with an operating arm in the same position worked with just a touch of the index finger, I'll get there one day :)

Ebbo,

That a neat solution, but I've wee hands so it may not work for me.

what you maybe looking for is this
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=SPEC&ModuleNo=2341&doy=16m1#spec

toggle type C - this gives a momentary ON, OFF, permenant ON

which is the type that in my first post, you can also get waterproof covers for these switches, and a type of heat shrink that is coated with 'glue' on the inside so when you heat it up to seal it is effectively waterproof the connections

I need to have another look at this as I was thinking about putting the metal part I looking for round the grip but that may interfere with the heat function of the grip, I need to check that

cheers

It looks like an Interide Bracket. Link Here

I may have one in the Garage, can you wait until the weekend for me to have a look?

Cheers Roddy, I did think of using a 'momentary on' toggle switch at one time but thought a m/switch with an operating arm like the one below would make for nice easy operation, just touch it sideways with the index finger, but so far I haven't found a waterproof version (to be truthfully, I haven't looked that hard yet  )

In my experience if you want this style of switch waterproof then they tend to be on the large side as most microswitch's of this size are designed to used within an enclousure, but I'll have a wee look about, as that maybe a good solution

On the PTT page of your site did you happen to meter out the wiring from the PTT switch to the Autocomm connector, as what pin the red/blue screen wires went to ?

cheers

Sorry Roddy, I wish it were that simple, the PTT cable splits to two 5 pin DIN plugs, one side goes to the radio, the other to the Autocom. I've tried to get one of the plugs apart but it seems to be potted in some kind of plastic, if I go on much longer it will be wrecked (it pretty much is now, they cost around £38  ) just belling them out doesn't alway give you the answer you need, there could be resistors and/or capacitors hiding in there...

Got one for you.:thumb2

Pm me your address and i will get it in the post friday/saturday.
Thats very kind Mark because mine's totaled now, I never did find where the blue wire went, but it didn't seem to bell out properly.

PM sent :thumb2
