Pulling away from the lights

...................lighter fly wheel, needs, as Terry said, a little more aggressive stance.....................

I thought that the new bike had a 938grm heavier flywheel. Perhaps that is to compensate for a much lighter wet clutch assembly.

If you are used to very rapid launch from the lights it may well be the electronic "Nanny" that is sabotaging you. As said switch it all off, or as much as you can and try again. I take no responsibility if you land on your back with an inverted bike on top of you:D

OP - take your bike to your nearest dealer and get them to update the bikes software. The latest mapping I have has TRANSFORMED the bike. Traction control seems to be much less noticeable in road mode now and being heavy handed with the throttle and quickly releasing the clutch doesn't leave you kangerooing up the road anymore!

Ignore the others on here, I know the exact issues you mentioned, I am also an experienced rider and live on motorbikes for pleasure and for work.
I don't think its that the others don't know, I think that there are that many updates and software changes on these bikes that we all have different versions and as I say, the differences can be drastically different. The problem may be that we are having different experiences on different versions of the software...

I have posted in another thread, but my bike is totally different now (for the better). The violent cutting off of the throttle if you try blast the throttle open has been tamed quite a lot among other things i have noticed.

We could really do with someone getting the differences in software updates and posting them on here.
Rainbow would not give them to me, despite the bike mechanic telling me they had been printed off, the service dept wouldn't pass this onto me unfortunately.

I recall when I had a K1200s, there were multiple engine software updates trying to get fueling right, but I used to get print outs of other things it updated oin the bike (from Pidcock BMW) - think I got up to version 11.1 or something!?

+1
There are a lot of whiners on this site - if you find riding a motorcycle difficult then don't do it? Why does everyone expect to have their hands held throughout their entire lives? Weird.

Though most of the whiners don't even own the bike they whine about. And that is weird.

Cooky...

My guess is, it's the traction control making it feel that way. If you have Enduro mode run in that, less interaction or, if you have the plug in under the seat turn the traction off and give that a try. Mines in Enduro mode all the time.

I've been riding for 30 years, had a GS before the WC, ridden all sorts. Day I picked mine up I stalled it at least three times if not more, lighter fly wheel, needs, as Terry said, a little more aggressive stance, until you get use to it, once you have, you be the fastest thing off the lights.... But only if your bike is RED!!!!

Yeah stalled mine a few times when starting off but if you have 1 single ounce of brains then you learn quickly how to work this new bike - perhaps some people don't have the learning gene - in which case they should not be riding a motorcycle.I have almost 10,000 miles on my LC now so I am pretty well adapted to its little foibles and can happily say it's the best GS to date :D

If you have only ridden your LC a few miles give it a chance, you will grow to love it - hmmmmmm isn't this what people have said since the very first GS?

The forthcoming GSA has a heavier flywheel than the current GS. The OP is talking about the current GS.

Had my first ride on a new GS a few weeks ago, a guest rolled up on one and asked if I had ridden one yet. Well I was kitted up and off whilst he was still drinking his welcome beer. My thoughts were, 1, it feels like a GS, 2, but it does go!!! Stopped and started away several times with no problems other that the front lifting off when I wound it on in first. Felt very stable, I didn't get to try it at high speeds, max was 110mph (as shown on the sat nav)

But this is only a sample of one and an all too short ride, I could do with one on test next summer, Please Mr BMW, you know it makes sense.

This is my 3rd GS and my 15th year of commuting in London daily with traffic light GPs every day. I've had everything from 125s to 650s to KTMs to big GSs. Have always been very fast away from the lights. This has never been an 'issue' on any other bike so that's why I made the enquiry. I've been a member since 2002 and posted only about 360 times. That's a pretty low ratio so I don't think I can be accused of being over excited when it comes to forum posting about a new purchase (pot/kettle/black - a paradigm). Sounds like I just need to alter my riding style. Sounds like you need to care a little less.

Fair enough.:thumb
