I posted a thread that weird floaty feeling. Well, tried to get tyre plugged. Tried 6 motorcycle tyre fitters/repairers. All gave me a similar response based on advice circulated within the m/c tyre fitting/repair industry. No puncture plugs above a V rating (my tyre is a Michelin Road 5 Trail and is W rated). One said one plug max on a V rated tyre, two max on a H rated tyre. Did anyone get the same response as me?

Yes, I could get DIY kit but probably might buy one in the future as a get you home temporary fix. In summary, will now buy a new tyre

Tyre went down shortly after riding on road tarred and gritted that day. Thinking about claiming from the local council. Has anyone had any success claiming from local councils (or other authorities) for an similar incident?

Thank you folks

Michelin used to recommend repairs to their W rated motorcycle tyres, if you contact their technical services dept for up to date advice

Plug it using a Stop & Go tyre puncture repair kit.

Usually keep them in place until the tyre wears out.

i would plug it myself, but thats just me

Saying that i do use proper rema tip top plugs though.

I very much doubt the council will have anything to do with it. They cant be responsible for every little thing that happens on the road. You would have a hell of a job proving it was their fault. Get a plug set and do it yourself its not that hard.

W rated is 168 MPH. Are you likely to ride at those speeds on your GS.. If so then i'd listen to the warnings about plugging, if not then plug away.

I have a simple string plug in my current rear PR5 Trail, its been in for about 3-4k miles. No air leaking and string still in there. If it doesn't act up I'll just change it at next service. It didn't come out at 115mph at least...

Plug it using a Stop & Go tyre puncture repair kit.

In my limited experience (maybe 15 repairs) I'd buy a sticky string kit in case these fail.

Never had a fail with a string kit, but a few with Stop N Go.

Thank you for all your advice which has given me a lot more confidence. Anyone recommend a good kit / source for sticky string?

I suspect you'll get nowhere with trying to claim from Suffolk CC (if indeed it was their patch) they're notoriously difficult to deal with.

Nice to see another localish member too!

i suspect you'd get nowhere with any council for trying to claim for a puncture...

Just imagine all the outraged bikermates up in arms because of the huge council tax increases due to the council funds running out or the council insurance cost increases due to all the claims.

Don't mess around!!!! just go get it fixed. Like most web sites there are for and against.
