Puncture Repairs - Why Won't Some Dealers Do Them?

I went down to Truro for the weekend with a few friends, and on getting up on Saturday morning, discovered a flat rear tyre on the GS. I was directed to National Tyres as the closest bike tyre dealer. I was very surprised to be told that they do not repair punctures in motorcycle tyres, and they informed me this was company policy. They pointed me in the direction of M.Y Motors in Redruth who sorted me out at very short notice.

The question is, why don't National repair punctures? I had a puncture repair carried out on a ZR rated tyre on my Triumph last week by Universal Tyres in Tottenham and they were more than happy to do it. Does anyone have the definitive answer?

I think its a liability thing, local independent specialist tyre dealer would replace a tyre only if it was off the bike, they would't take the wheels off due to having to 'fiddle' with the brakes accordingly and not having relevent insurance ( or was it skills )

If I need anything done to my tyres be it puncture repair or replacement I always go to someone I trust. For me its Stuart at National Tyres in Barnsley. He`s not the nearest but what the hell.
He repairs punctures which in his opinion are repairable and charges a tenner so if its a National tyres policy then it probably does`nt apply to M/cycle tyre specialist depots.

A few days after new year I collected my wifes new car and the following morning she got a puncture. So I took the car & tyre with 30 miles on it to Kwik Fit who returned the spare to the boot, fixed the puncture, gave me a cup of coffee, tightened the wheel nuts with a torque wrench and had a supervisor check the work and torque setting. The cost for all this good service...No charge.

but if you belong to the AA you dont have to be a AA member to use this service
call them for tyres mobile unit to your house/work if they have to fit a tyre then you get FREE tyre insurance on that tyre only

I have a finely tuned VFM gland but I dont mind paying a bit more if I`m getting added value though...I`ll certainly check out AA next though...cheers
