One of the partners in our office has got his PC infected with something called 'pureseeker' It keeps launching all these porn sites on his PC, much to the amusement of the rest of us!

Anyway, the jokes over really, and we need to help him get rid of it. Worryingly, it also incorporates this redialling thing were it disconnects from his normal server, then reconnects to a premium line. Trouble is, it's also disabled his modem speaker, so he can't hear it when it does it.... The people that send these things out want bloody hanging!

Any help that I can pass on to him would be much appreciated. He runs no anti virus, and no firewall, and I have warned him!

Have a look Here , If thats no good try Googling "pureseeker ", there is quite a bit of info on how to remove it.

Oh and Tell him to get a Anti virus and Firewall so it doesn't happen again. Both AVG and Zone Alarm are good and free.

The funny thing is that it's very very rare to get these diallers from legit sites...they're nearly always from pr0n or dodgy places.

Is your system really still on a dial up network??

I would have thought you'd actually be on an ethernet linked wired network- in which casem the easiest solution to prevent this happening again is to physically remove the modenm or at leastthe modenm cable.

Dial up

Yes we're still on diallup, and I didn't say he hadn't got the thing from a porn site.... that's why we were all finding it so funny, because we all had our suspicions, and he was claiming not to know where it had come from!
