My 1150 has a Pyramid hugger which was fitted by the previous owner.

The bottom/lower bolt that holds it on has been rounded off at some time in its past.

How do I remove the bolt? :nenau

Will it effect removing the caliper to changepads in the future or tyre change due shortly?

Are they prone to rounding off? If so I'll get it removed all together.

Help!

Is the bit that's rounded the screw that goes into a hexagonal shaped (usually) bit of metal? The hex shaped bit of metal:

a holds the caliper and
b secures the hugger

Use and easy out if you're technical, or mole grips if you aren't!

on mine the screws are stainless counter sunk hex socket screws, so drilling for an easy out or getting a set of mole grips on them is not possible.

if yours are the same i suggest knocking a suitably sized Torx bit into the socket and use that to extract screw. alternatively application of a left hand drill bit would likely work. they are not usually tight IME, quite the opposite.

Had the same on my GS. Just get a centerpunch and hammer, tap the joint between the countersunk washer and the bolt in anticlockwise direction. Mine came off really easily. Rang Pyramid and got some new ones foc.
When I refitted them just put a bit of copper slip between washer and screw, not had a problem since. :thumb

Managed to bang a suitably sized Torx bit in hole and it did the job :thumb however it was very tight!! A lot of corrosion a white powdery residue evident.

I've taken it off for the time being but I would like to put it back on again.

I need a suitable stainless bolt but what do I ask for? :nenau

Are the originals stainless? if so I'll order some more but coat them with copper slip.

Take the hexagonal bit into the shop. Probably M5 or M6 bolt.

See the thread lower down, titled BOLT SIZES.

I've come to the conclusion its an M5. But I'll hopefull sort tomorrow.

Thanks :thumb

I bought a tub of "Mr Fast'ner" steel allen bolts, hex bolts, nuts and washers from the London bike show a few years ago, and they have come in very useful in the years inbetween.

I don't know what grade of steel they are, so would not use them on calipers, for example, but it is a very handy thing to have in the garage for occasions like yours.

Probably a bit late now but....

I had the same problem with the spacer washers corroding, I e-mail'd pyramid including my address and they sent me 8 new washers FOC in the post.

:beerjug:

I took the old ones down to Avon fastners in Stratford and they provided 4 identical bolts free of charge. :D

Lots of copperslip will be applied when refitting.
