Going to northern Spain via Santander in June, taking in the Pyrenees and in particular Potes in the Picos De Europa. Then heading east to France and upwards, eventually ending up at the Normandy Beaches.

What roads would you recomend as 'must do' roads, particularly in the northern Spain stretch ? And what kind of weather conditions can we expect that time of year?

3rd June to 14th. Been over the water many times, used to pick a round of the WSB and make it the target for the trip but this is the first time to Spain. There's a group of about five of us and for some reason we're all looking forward to this one more than we have in the past. Like kids at Christmas, we can't wait.

This will be my first trip on a GS though and I'm getting quite excited about having it as a travelling partner.

I am using michelin regional map 572,that covers all the best roads in the picos.Just follow the roads with green borders.I am also using map 734 which covers spain, for going across pyrenees.

Fuddy, I've just today gone and bought map 572. I'm going to sort some routes out on Garmin and download them to my GPS so I don't have to keep looking down at my tank bag (the bastards always make me go up front!)

If we're in the same area at the same time how about a beer? Are you riding in a group ?

kmd, i will travel alone on this trip as my mates are sports bike riders who dont go far from home.I dont mind, at least i can have a break from the wife
for ten days. Are your group camping or staying in hotels.

Hotels, although I haven't a clue which ones, one of the other's is sorting that out. My job usually is to go up front, set the pace and read the map and I never realised how hard that can be til I was 'given' the task (bastards!).

Met a chap at Zeebrugge a couple of years ago who had just done about six weeks travelling all over Europe on his own on a Transalp. He was about 60 years old, and had spent some time on the executive of the Trail Riders Fellowship. Got talking and he joined us for dinner on the ferry and a few drinks. Can't remember his name but what an interesting guy he was. It was at his suggestion I bought and read a book called 'Why men don't listen and women can't read maps'

Often wondered what it would be like to just bugger off on your own for a bit.

....3rd June to 14th.......

...you'll be on the same ferry as us, then. Four of us are going for a play around the Pyrenees then on to the Catalunya MotoGP. We're riding back up the west coast of France on the following Mon/Tues/Wed.

Look out for a red 1200 with a Firestorm, Blackbird and Fireblade in tow.

Other than the N260…

The Bv-4031 for Coll de la Creueta, stunning!

The Gi-682. I haven't any pictures, just take it from me, from Tossa to Sant
Feliu de Guixols is 12 miles of biking heaven, honest!

Or, better still, read the Pyrenees 2006 travelogue below

Will be on some of these roads in two weeks time looking forward to it.
N260 going via some big bridge at Millau.

You should go through the Gorge du Tarn to get to Millau! I rode some of the N260 last week, fantastic road and no traffic to speak of. Stayed in the Hotel Sanchez in Ainsa and the Avenida in Seu d'Urgell.
