Is it ok to charge through the USB port as the unit does not seem to recognise that there is a charging device connected?? Does this mean it is actually charging? Just bought an in-car charger that charges through the USB port that I am going to butcher to fit on the bike. Just wanted to make sure its ok before i started. Hope this is not too much of an obvious question...... Thanks in advance. :D

Not sure if this is relevant to your scenario but you can get a power only type "A" male USB plug from Maplin. If you cut the wall charger wire and connect up the above plug your Quest can be charged from a car USB 12v/5v cigarette plug or a PC. The Maplin plug does not have to be soldered, just a press fit. If you want to keep the wall charging capability just put another Maplin plug on the end of the other piece of wire and connect the two with a female to female type "A" USB convertor. Cost is minimal and takes about half an hour of cursing

Sorry about the red sticking plasters - must register the photo resizing program!

A Warning

You may already be aware but just to state the obvious; Do not wire up the Quest directly to a 12v supply. The car adapter and bike cradle both contain a transformer that reduces the voltage to 5 volts.

Others, including someone off here, cut off the adaptor and wired direct, result; a puff of smoke and a new paper weight. Whilst the 2610, 2720 and 2820 all run directly off a 12 volt feed the Quest doesn't.

Guys. Thanks for your replys. I will go begging to the Electronics Lab in work today and see what they can whip up. Hopefully the "Magic Smoke" willl not be released!!! Thanks again.
