I had the same problem in Germany a couple of years ago and again in Spain this summer. The unit simply would not find satellites.
On both occasions I sprayed WD40 on the hinges where the aerial flap joins the unit. Worked both times for me.

mine's is still working fine, at the minute
defo a design fault on the hinge connector/ solder point, but is repairable
neighbours dog required for dismantle though
