I'm using a Quest on an aux socket with a 1.5 a inline glass fuse. The socket is connected to the starter motor poles (1150GS). Problem is the fuse blows very often....is that normal?

My guess - purely a guess - is that the inline glass fuse is probably blowing due to vibration of the filiment, not electrical load. Perhaps try replacing the glass tube fuse with an automotive type blade fuse of the same rating, and see what the results are. You can buy an inline blade type fuse holder for a few dollars at just about any auto shop.

For that low an amperage you will have to look for automotive radio fuses. This mini variety, although smaller than your normal bike/car type, will still fit into the standard blade holder if you apply a bit of welly

Just in case you are referring to the main fusebox, give the socket a good squirt of WD40 or simlilar as the contacts are prone to oxidation and shorting - though this normally takes out such other items as the indicators etc

The fuse is to protect the wiring from overloading not the GPS. Which means the fuse should be as near to the battery as possible, not just before the GPS.

It could be receiving a surge on starting.. you could try changing the fuse for a time delay version..with the same amps.

or plug the gps in only after starting the bike...but i'm sure that would be a pain :D

also when does the fuse blow..is it on starting?

Hi guys thanks for the ideas...The fuse is close to the battery, well close to the starter motor and it normally blows after long trips, never during the trip so I would say vibrations could be the problem, thing is I couldn't find blade type fuses with such low amps...

The fuse is to protect the wiring from overloading not the GPS.

Well in that case I would get rid of it, as I can replace the wire easily in the rare case it blows

Rate the fuse to suit the cable, not the GPS. If the circuit shorts the fuse will blow. The unit doesn't need fused protection.
