Just got back from a `discovery moto tour` in Morocco. Great time.
You get to ride a GS1200 for 2 000 kms, I own a 2001 1150 GS, ridden every day for 80 000 miles (total).

Question 1
Back on the 1150 today it is really noticable how heavy the throttle is compared to the 2007 1200. Should it be heavy in comparison ?, does anyone ride these back to back (you know wot I mean !!!).
when you ride the same bike every day you dont notice a tailing off of throttle `feel`.
Can the throttle action be lightened ? would new cables make a difference?

Question 2
The handlebar position on the 1200 is really comfy. Can the handlebars be retrofitted to my 1150?

Im not gonna trade my 1150 in, apart from the above its sooooo much better in many ways.
Thanks in advance for sensible (or funny -ha,ha) advice

On your 80K mile bike are you still using the original throttle cables ? if you are it's pretty obvious why they feel heavy compered to a newish bike.

I think BMW suggest changing them every 36k miles. :augie

if you do change the cables, you'll also need the new holder bracket, as your one won't work with the new main cable.

I ride them back-to-back, and I agree the 1150 throttle is heavy as a heavy thing.
Mine is at 30k kms, and I am going to lube the junction-box splitter thingy next time home to see if it improves things. However, I think it is just the return springs that are a bit strong.
Vibes are way worse at 4500-5000.
Brakes need watching after servo.
Weight needs watching too, esp with full fuel tank.
Still like the 1150 but there is no doubt a lot of good stuff was achieved in the 1200.

cheers chaps

Thanks Steptoe, yup still on originals so looks like I will be changing them this weekend, anything I should look out for, hints, tips etc ?

Thanks Bin riding, can the throttle cable springs be changed at the injector?
I liked the 1200 but it felt sort of `flimsy` the console vibrated all over and handlebar vibes at 85 mph was intrusive (no appreciable cruising speed vibes at all on mine).
The 1200 did feel lighter and more responsive but not as `solid` or well constructed (all views are personal). Too much plastic.
Oh yeah, the screen was a great improvement on the 1200 as were the brakes but the f***ing seat

Never looked for new springs, could be possible to take a turn off them, but only if replacements were to hand in case it was a bad idea....
Fair point though.

cheers Steptoe, I have dropped you an enquiry as to the cables and bits I need and prices.

Step,
Can you explain this to me, and does it apply to '02 bikes?

if you do change the cables, you'll also need the new holder bracket, as your one won't work with the new main cable.

Tks.
