My 02 1150 has the usual cosmetic problem with the fork brace, ie paint peeling off, looks terrible. So ....

How difficult is it to remove from the bike? Much of a job?

Should I then have the brace:
Shot blasted/powder coated?
Stove enamelled?
Polished up? (yeah yeah looks a bit Harley-esque I know) ...

Guidance appreciated, as ever

Just a thought,buy a new/used one,get that treated/painted/chromed
you can then do the swap in a couple of hours-mimising "off the road" time ;)
Don't mention it:D

Just removed mine to paint it while I had to change a fork seal. Not a difficult job. Use a heat gun to heat the nut attaching the brace to the telelever. 130nm is the torque setting for tightning it up + red locktite to keep it there. Hammerite smooth siver spray is a good match. I did the fork bottoms while I was at it.

I've just done mine.

I've had it powdercoated a semi-matt black, along with the wishbone (which had fading paint for some reason).

The powdercoat is really thick, so shouldn't stonechip.

While I am in the area, I've had the alloys (mine's now on RT alloys) powdercoated gloss black. I've painted the fork bottoms with "Tough Black", along with the speedo drive, and the rear cast ABS ring (which is now causing abs sensor clearence problems - but that's another story!

Powdercoat is the best finish - it's really really tough. But it does take time.

Now - what the hell do I do with the flaking engine paint???
