I am in the process of uploading all of europe to a 2gb flash card.

Taken 3 hrs so far

Question is, when I selected all the maps during the sending to device bit, it came up with a message saying that I do not have the unlock codes for Austria :nenau

It then asked if I wanted to send to device anyway so I clicked "yes".

Its still in the final stage of sending the maps now but does this mean I will not have mapping for Austria :nenau

Could not find answer on the search so sorry if i'm being a numpty :o

Have you bought new?
If so when you unlocked the maps using the customer code did you select the "all regions" option?

Give me a call on 07765677927 if I can help out whilst in progress

Sherpa ;)

Hi Sherpa,

It was a second hand 2610 and I re-entered the unlock code from my Quest which I bought new with CNV8.

I wasn't aware of the "select all regions" as I followed Whattons tips by zooming out to 500 miles and selecting all the maps

I will see if it has uploaded ok and if not I will try again using the option you mentioned.

I would call you but I have just been back to check and I cannot access mapsource at all whilst it is still sending data to the unit.

Thanks for the tip and if i'm still stuck I will take you up on your offer :beerjug:

It's a lot quicker to download the maps via a card reader. Don't know the answer to your problem, sorry :o . You've not got an old City Nav have you?

Now I remember reading that somewhere. This has taken over 4 hours now and I have a decent laptop. Don't know if its down to proccessor speed or not but mine is one of those hyperthreading thingies.

I do have a card reader as well. Do you not need to have the 2610 plugged in though because of unit ID and unlock codes :nenau

You need the unlock code for the 2610 and what ever version of mapping that unlock code match’s (from the previous owner)

Ok... failed miserably :(

Took nearly 5 hrs to upload all the maps and at the end of it all it says "maps locked" :(

I have entered the map unlock code from my quest that the original maps were for and no joy.

I have entered the 2610 unlock codes but i didn't think that would work as I have used the V8 maps that came with the Quest.

OK.... open to suggestions.

I have had a crappy day what with the bike being on its side this morning so going out for a beer :beerjug:

The unlock code given with your 2610 matches your GPS and the original mapping disks (Likely City Navigator v?), the disks could be any of a few different versions as the 2610 was on sale quite a few years (and still is)

You’ll have to contact the seller and get the disks off him I’m afraid, to be sure it all matches up. Install the mapping and unlock code on your PC, then just put the UK on the card as a trial.

Thanks ebbo, :thumb

I have the discs and unlock codes that came with the 2610 but they are V7.

I have tried to load the V8 maps onto the 2610 that came with my quest1 as peeps have said that each set of maps come with an unlock code that you can use twice.

As I have a 2gb flash card I thought I might as well load the most up to date maping on the 2610 as I can get the whole of europe on one card.

I'm sure if I loaded the 4 cd's that came with the 2610 everything would be fine but as I have V8 with an unlock code to use I would try that..... but it didn't work

I'm sure the solution is easy if you know it :D

You can use the v8 maps, you'll need a second(different) unlock code to use them with the 2610 though. You can get this from the garmin website.I can't remember exactly what to do but I think if you go to 'My Account' there's a link to unlock a second unit.
Tony

EDIT:
Open Mapsource then click 'Utilities' then 'Unlock maps' then 'Next' then select second option 'No,I need to get a 25 character unlock code' and follow the instructions.

Hi Tony and thanks,

I have followed those instructions and it came up with a message " no units to unlock" :nenau

I think I will be on the phone to Garmin on Monday

Jon, was your GPS plugged into your pc when you did this?

Further to your question Kev,

The unit was plugged into the laptop and when mapsource was looking for devices it found the 2610 and unit ID number.

I have even tried loading the V7 maps but there is a problem with those now

When you load disc 2 it opens up a page saying the details need to be copied and then sent to the cd drive :nenau

Nothings ever simple it seems :(

Jon

A few things are unclear here:

What kind of Quest is it? If it is at Quest2 then it carries the CN8NT map and the NT map is not compatible with the 2610. Also - the map provided with units with preinstalled maps can not be unlocked to a second unit.

If you have a Quest1 the map comming with it is CN8 and this map is OK to install also on the 2610. Just go to www.garmin.com and get an unlock code for the 2610 as your "second unit". :type

Hi HMR,

It is a quest1, and when I went onto the garmin site to get an unlock code for a second unit, this is where I get stuck.

I have tried every option from reusing my original to get another and when it finds the 2610 with serial number etc it won't let me go any further as it says there is no unit to unlock :nenau

I'm sure its something very simple and I am fairly good with mapsource but this has me well and truly stumped :(

Appreciate all you comments etc and I will have another go on the Garmin site :thumb

I think..... this is a big THINK I might have sussed it.

Been on to the Garmin site again and on there FAQ's it says I have to redeem my coupon code :nenau

Now I do not have a new coupon code but it says you re-use your original one which is a 7 or 8 digit number. This will then let you re-use your 25 digit inlock code on a second unit :bounce1

I will try it tomorrow and let you know how i get on :beerjug:

Hi all,

Just to let you know I have got it sorted..... at last

It ended up being a problem with the Garmin site

When you apply to unlock the maps for a second time...ie for another unit, it is supposed to give you a completly new unlock code.

This was not happening so thats where the problem was. On the phone to Garmin today and they emailed me the correct code and would you believe it, it worked :D

So... I now have all of Europe on a 2GB flash card and all is well.

Thanks everyone for your coments / tips but this was a strange one

Regards
