Hi All,

Just got back from a spare of the moment trip through the Brecon Beacons.

I fuelled up the 1200GS and set off on Fri. 03rd July after waiting for the heavy rain to clear that hit Lancs earlier that day. Unfortunately, I didn't get cracking until 17:30 but just prior to leaving I booked an overnight stay at the Travellers Rest 7 miles from Brecon.

The run to Brecon was marred a bit by some major traffic on the M6 due to 3 accidents. I had to do a fair bit of traffic navigation to cut the queues. Still amazes me how many cars try to tighten up the gap to prevent us bikers coming through, even though we are in actual fact reducing the queues.

I ended up behind another 1200GS-er and we both weaved through lanes 2 and 3 - I ended up following the other GS-er for about 30 or so miles until he turned off into some services to refuel / take a break - a friendly wave from each of us as we parted company and off I continued to South Wales.

The Heads of the Valley Road was an eye opener - I cant believe how good the road is and how quick people go down there.

I arrived at the Travellers Rest at 21:45 (just starting to go dark) and was greeted by the great people that run it and presented with a superb evening meal, just what the Doctor ordered after the run down.

I got some shut eye and then awoke Saturday am to head to Brecon and onto the National Park. I got a few photos (see attached).

Be warned: The scenery is stunning and the roads are great - you have to watch you don't lose concentration as you "gawp" at what is all around you! :JB

The weather held until I got all the way home, no jams on the way back and all I can say is what a fantastic place the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas really are.

The 1200 performed flawlessly (no shock there)!

Hope you enjoy the pics. If you haven't been through the Beacons, I highly recommend it and staying at the Travellers Rest (LD3 7YP, Tel. 01874 676 233) is a great bonus if you need to break the trip up - the staff, food and accommodation are all spot on.

Cheers all.
James
