R100 RS

Long story short.
Customer can’t justify the cost of restoring his late father’s bike.
So I’ve bought it.
I’ll put it in line for restoration later in the year but if anyone is on the lookout ,for a project,shout up.
The bike was ridden 50 miles to me but it deserves more than a token arse wipe.
Front end was removed to refurb front forks,
At a minimum it needs ,tyres,fork overhaul,engine and gearbox seals etc.

Brucey bonus,
Full stainless exhaust,rebuilt master cylinder,new motobatt, brand new hagon shocks still in the box,
There’s @£1k straight off.

Urban myth according to the Boxer bible. 70bhp for all RS upto 84

Not a myth. Early R100RS had 70bhp 76Nm torque. Later (mono) had 60bhp 74Nm torque. Later lower power models were meant to have had their 'curves' adjusted to give more power and torque at lower rpm.

Steptoe might be referring to different versions of pre Mono ones ... Like a secret special as BM could build out of their bits boxes...

I wouldn't profess to be an oracle - I don't have a book inside me like Andy Schweitzer. I do have an R100RS (made in 1976) so it has 40mm ports. But I've not been interested in finding out if later twin shocks are different. I have a notion that those with 38mm ports do have a different power output but I don't know the figures - the links I posted, when you look at the 1978-84 models all badge them as 70bhp. Normally I would bow to Steptoe's vast experience!

Been doing bits to this in between jobs,trying have a sympathetic touch with it,
As it’s an original early bike and pretty rare.
Carbs properly cleaned/serviced.

Forks overhauled,powder coated lowers,
Brakes serviced/ brake fluid changed,note the unobtainable master cylinder

Given it a good clean,
I’m reluctant to go too far with this as it will make it too expensive and prevent someone else having the pleasure of taking things further should they wish,
Plus it’s got that original patina that can’t be put back.

£3k will buy it as things stand,
That would be a running bike,
The early R100rs with big port heads,pinstripe wheels in this colour was only produced for a year or so.
