Hi all when i am trying to start my standard r100gs it never wants to start with any choke i have to start it with just a little throttle but i have to turn the engine over quite a bit before it starts if the bike been parked up for a week . any ideas why this is?

The bike is standard with a standard clean air filter :beerjug:

Hi, I think the "doctors "( Im not one) on the site will want a bit more info. Ie. Once started, does it run properly.
Does it smoke,
How do you leave it, Side or centre stand
petrol tap on or off.
Etc,

any other info might make it easier.;)

hi when started the bike runs well no smoke but maybe a little rich when the bike is parked up i leave it on the centre stand the bike has 45000 miles on it and a y piece centre section but the rest is standard ......thanks in advance for any help :beerjug:

CHeck your choke levers at the carbs are returning to the off position!

Down toward ground for off and up for full on

Just push down they noramlly sit about 45 degrees below horizontal for off

Either that or give the bike a bloody good service When was the last time the air filter was changed?

i'd start by cleaning the carbs, paying particular attention to the choke internals and jets/drillings in general.

Try new gaskets on the float bowls. If the hole in the gasket round the jet tube goes oval and lets air in the fuel doesn't get drawn through the choke system. It took me ages to suss that the first time it happened to me. Failing that the other advice is good :)

You didnt say whether you leave the taps on. If you do its possible that the left hand carb is flooding a bit especially if its on the centre stand. Once fired up it would run ok.. I would try turning off the taps even before you stop. then see what happens.:rob

Thanks for all the help checked the choke levers on the carbs they are all the way down where they should be i always turn the pertrol taps off when parked up need to check the gaskets ...thanks for the help:beerjug:
