Hi....iv made a mistake of buying a 94 GS but i'm not going to give up on it just at the mo.....Its running terribly between 2000 and 3000 rpm,to me it feels like its over fueling as it stinks of fuel from time to time, its takes alot of consentration to filter in traffic as it surges or just cuts out.Its ok when its on the move at 50mph +,its got a k + n air filter which iv cleaned and oiled new plugs clean fuel...has any one had the same sort of prob and any advice would be great before fireman sam has to come to the rescue of a GS.....pete

Throttle body sync required? Prob valve clearances and Rocker end float as well.:comfort

You've ...

... cleaned the filter, did you perchance lift the tank ?

Far from a mistake - I've got a '94 and it's great.
If I were you, I'd do the rocker end float and valve clearances, put new plugs in it, put an OEM air filter in it rather than the K&N and balance the throttle bodies. And while you're at it, it's probably a good idea to drop the engine, gearbox and FD oils as it's new to you and sounds like it could do with some TLC. Basically give at full service. I'd imagine this would sort out your rough running and also give you some confidence that you're starting from a 'known good' point.

If you don't want to tackle this yourself it won't cost much for an independent BM specialist to give it a going over for you. Given your location, I'd give Steptoe a call: www.gsshop.biz

Indeed.

The bike is obviously new to you. fitting a K&N filter is a mistake for these bikes.. though an easy one to make. The bike wants to be standard.. completely standard.

Bite the bullet.. Contact Steptoe and he will set it up for you so it runs like a dream... I'm sure he will also give you a lot of sound advice on how exactly to keep it that way.

You might decide to leave all future servicing to him... or thereafter DIY. But at least you will then have a clearer idea on how it 'should' be running and have someone who you know to fall back to if something goes wrong.

A set-up by steptoe is by far the best way to spend your hard earned and get the bike running as it should be... like a dream.
