A friend of mine has a 1999 R1100 GS with a dead starter relay

Apparently they are no longer available from BMW

Does anyone know of a generic replacement part please ? I presume it’s just a standard 4 pin relay from Bosch or similar?

Cheers

If its this one

Then here prehaps

Why it says bot i dont know but it does take you to the website lol

If you go to the MaxBMW cattledog page, scroll down to the relays, it shiws as NA, but it also shows the interal diagram of the relay so you could another that has the same internal set up.

The Starter relay is a special relay BMW part No 61 36 1 389 105. It’s special because it has a 5th contact (86b) with a built in diode for normal operation.

However, it is basically a type A relay, so any motor factors should have one available preferably the higher current rated the better 30amp plus should be sufficient. The only draw back with using a standard type A relay is you will not be able to start the bike normally, you will need to pull in the clutch lever each time to start the bike as this will provide the earth path for the relay coil. Of course it goes without saying that should your clutch switch fail then you won’t be able to start the bike.

But at least it gives you temporary options.
