R1150 GS: What can I expect to start going wrong, and when?

... this thread is not as pessimistic as the title might suggest.

My standard R1150GS is 2 1/2 years old with 28k on. I use it vitually daily. Apart from surface corrosion on the fork brace and lower fork legs I can't fault it. It's all the bike I want and does everything I chuck at it.

Lots of people on this forum seem to change their bikes regularly and good luck to them, but I intend to keep mine long term. So with that in mind, are there any weaknesses that manifest themselves at around about certainn mileages - engine, drivetrain etc .... what's the average life of a clutch, for instance?

I now a lot of this depends on riding style etc, I suppose I am a 'cautious' rider in that case ... but I do maintain the service intervals religiously at a BMW dealership.

Any thoughts?

52K on mine and the only thing that's gone wrong is the speedo bulb.

but I rekon 29k is when trouble will start

A annual run has its advantages

2003 1150 GS `adventure`, currently 77000KM around the world now in Argentina 40000km to go on the way to Montreal...

anyhow not sure if i have a good un or or bad un, list of carnage is as follows...

1, bevel box input oil seal
2, gearbox output oil seal x 2
3, final drive output oil seal
4, replaced paralever bearings, after endless adjustments
5, collapsed final drive output bearing
6, fuel pump
7, rear brake lamp bulbs x 4
8, instrument bulbs x2

Glad that was cleared up, I got seriously confused also ... just to be pedantic, schedule says replace at 36k.

Of course, I could use Ming's technique of replacing everything on the bike under warranty .... 'my gearbox failed whilst sitting in the garage ....'

And don't forget to try and get a new fuel tank 'cos this one just got all bent up around the pump hatch an' it wasn't me guv!!!!
