R1150GS -- Braided replacement brake lines -- experiences/recommendations please ...?

My 2002 R1150GS with ABS2 is still running on its OE brake lines. I've read recently that it is advisable to change them every five years or so which means mine are seven years overdue .....

I've seen a rather nice kit by Spiegler. Has anyone used this, if so is it to be commended?

Otherwise, recommendations for alternative sets very much welcome.

I used HEL when I did mine, for no reason other than they were a name I recognised. Be careful to have the rear shielded where it runs through the guide, mine had some movement and started to wear through with the abrasion of the swing arm rising/falling.

Yeah quality just fit set to 1100rt , only thing kit comes without banjo bolts they extra, now I didn't mind cause I use old ones but if you fancy ss bolts that be extra ask them to make sure

I've just put a set of Goodridge lines on my '01. Went on easy, everything was included, work perfectly and look good.

+2 on the Goodridge, fitted straight onto my R1100RS. One point to note however, if you are upgrading make sure your front master cylinder is up to it. Within a week of riding I needed to replace the master cylinder piston and seals

Thanks - that's good to know. I won't be doing the fitting - job will be done when the bike goes in for its next service. Is there a way of checking the pistons and seals, or should I consider getting them replaced regardless?

Check Pistons for corrosion, if the seals are 13 years old I would get whoever is doing the service to check them.

But how do I tell if I have braided hoses ?

Having bought a replacement clutch line from them (they do the unusual-sized fittings on the slave end), I naively ordered a front brake set from them. When it arrived, it was completely unsuitable for my bike - I figured out belatedly that my front brake lines weren't original and the steel pipes had been removed. Probrake exchanged without a quibble, despite the cock-up being mine.

The fit and finish is visually better than Hel or Goodridge.

But how do I tell if I have braided hoses ?

google braided hoses for these bikes and it should become apparent what you have.
black rubber type hoses = original.
flexible stainless weave = braided.

I've opted for the Goodridge lines, ordered from Motorworks. They are being fitted next week - look like top quality kit. Will report back once they are on - overhauling my complete braking system at the same time (new pads, disc bolts on the front discs etc).

I had clutch line from Probrake - very good quality but had same problem with recieving wrong brake lines from them and ended up sending back for a refund. Bought Galfer lines from Calsport in Birmingham; fitted perfectly and excellent quality IMHO.
Apart from replacing brake pads the brakes on mine had never been touched in 14 years and 100k - did end up getting mikeyboy to rebuild the calipers and a brilliant job he did of them too.
