Hi,

When their bike is loaded up with luggage and panniers, how do they lift their bikes on to its centre stand?
I have a GSA seat set up, am i missing something or do i need to get a lifting handle? Has anyone made something DIY that helps?

Cheers

Garry

Lift on the passenger footpeg subframe loop at the same time as stepping on the centrestand 'extension'........no need for any other farkles that add unnecessary weight...

You'll get the hang of it...

Agree. Trying to 'lift' is the wrong technique. Put as much weight as you can on the centre stand foot bit which will create the upward motion, and use the passenger footpeg subframe section to pull backwards, but not upwards. I have my left hand on the left handlebar but was told not to put any pressure on that - I only do it to keep the bars straight. I was told people using the bar to pull it back tend to break their heated grips.

+1 Pete D.

It was only when I started looking at replacements for the 1150GS that I realised how perfectly configured the centre stand is. Even with full panniers and camping gear on board it was always easy to get on the stand using the above technique.

Must go, I'm due at the gym to practice my clean and jerk at 200kgs. :toungincheek

Exactly, working even with the short springs that I've fitted.

Handle

Wonderleek do one, had one for ever on my 1150 makes all effortless young Nippy does them just bolt on to subframe easy peasy.

cbrgaz I am back to similar techniques as mentioned.metropolis gives a good account.
trying to use the centre stand as the pivot to tug the bike backwards (same on the airheads)

i have tried a wunderlich type thing, they are ok.as long as you have it fitted correctly.
otherwise it just twists around the subframe. They can be a bit awkward when you have luggage fitted.

I have also seen a GS with a lifting handle from an rt1150 welded on the subframe, doing a similar job.

Never felt the need for a handle even fully loaded.
Stand with all your weight on the centre stand and 'assist' upwards / backwards with right hand under the subframe. Rolls onto the stand nicely.

That's pretty useful information--thanks for sharing that. I had a 1200 GSA in the past and found it much easier to get on the center stand. After 2 years with my 1150 GSA I still find it a bit of a struggle.

lifting handle

just fitted a handle today
no real need but am glad I did as it is easier!
