R1150GSA changing gear deteriorated!

Hi everyone...apologies if this has been covered before. My 02 Adventure has recently been returned to the road after about a 2 month lay up. Changing gear has become hit and miss. When cold it seems ok, but when warm is an absolute nightmare! From 5th into 4th...into 3rd...you got the picture. I am talking about trying to stamp it into gear! Going up is ok.
Checked the clutch fluid...looks clean and the level is good. Checked the lever and linkeage and the splined shaft it clamps onto.
Any ideas please...its driving me mad!

Clean up your gear linkage - do a search, it's a simple job...

... your gear linkage; and don't forget the two little ping-fuckits that hold the linkages together. Cleaning it up without removing these and greasing the ball joints is pointless, but they're not called P-F's for nothing Do let us know how you get on

Even though I wasn't having any problems with my gear change. I dismantled my linkage including removing the gear lever from the mounting.

Gave the whole lot a good clean and lube.

The whole gear change is a lot smoother and slick. You can feel a marked difference.

So well worth doing. Should only take about an hour or so. The hardest part was removing the countersunk socket screw which holds the gear lever on the mounting. You need to remove it so you can clean and lube the pivot bushes. Mine was original assembly so was held in with loctite, and as it is a hex socket, was a bit awkward to get at, as I didn't want to remove the silencer. Anyway now it's been off and on. Next time will be a whole lot easier without the thread lock.

Thanks for your replies. Gear linkage has been cleaned and lubed. Moves nicely. Splined shaft looks clean, and no sign of wear.

Good info. Mine was a little tight but good cleaning made it much better. Good to know since this is one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things.

cleaned my linkage today....properly!! Took the hangar of...cleaned it and greased it. Took it out for a ride....like a brand new box!!!
