I'm in the market for a serious motorway muncher that can do the in-town thing as well. I'm thinking about the 1150GS and was very impressed on my test ride of the 1150 with its motorway stability in a crosswind. Is the lighter weight of the R1200 likely to compromise this?

Not if you put some very thick cheese sandwiches in the bottom of your panniers:rolleyes:

In all seriousness, if you want a motorway muncher, get something that was designed to do that job - the RT will fit that bill far more comfortably than any GS......

Mike:)

exactly or put on weight

The question said I'm looking for something that will do motorway and town. The RT riders I've seen in town struggle with the gaps that GS riders wouldn't have a problem with and which I didn't have a problem with on my test ride. I liked the 1150GS as a motorway bike but was a little put off by the weight of the thing hence my question.

Andrew

As you were - an 1150 GS will do you fine. A 1200GS may well do it better, but it's too early to say. It's a bit lighter, but I can't see that making a massive difference to cross-wind stability.

If you can afford it (£9,300), can wait till March and like the looks, get an order for the newbie in now. If you want to spend less and want something sooner, the 1150 will do you proud.

I rode mine down to Italy last summer and did a couple of 600 mile days in relative comfort - cruising quite happily at 80-90mph with occasional stints at a ton plus.

It really was fantastic for that sort of thing, and as you say, it'll do the town thing as well.

Do it.

Go on 'Para' - tell us what you really think about the "plastic F series" ???:D

That's OK and agree - there's too many motor makers sticking "corporate faces" onto every model they make - perhaps they're frightened no-one will recognise the 1200?
Do you really think it looks like the Scarver(CS) or the 650GS - I think the latter! (only with the 'squinty' headlights [sorry Mike!])
