Could someone help clarify the following: I bought a new R1200GS in Hong Kong in October 2005. Dealer indicated that it was a 2005 model, and Government registration indicates date of manufacture as 2005. When cleaning the bike today, I noticed under the front mud guard a small calendar with the date December 2004 imprinted. I then decided to check the VIN# against a website to identify the manufacture date (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do) and the website appeared to confirm December 2004 as the manufacture date. So, at the risk of appearing stupid (and before taking it up with the local dealer), is this a 2004 or a 2005 bike? Should I presume it is a 2005 model, manufactured in late 2004? What are the key differences between the model years? I read somewhere there was a recall of the 2004 models...Thanks for your help!

Yes, bikes made after the vacation in late summer are usually next years model.

There are several recalls but they don't really go by model year. It's the identification number (VIN) found on the frame that's important. Write down that number and check it with your dealer, they should know what is necessary for your bike.
