Hi,

My new 12GS has "full" tool kit, but no 17mm spanner for the plug spanner to unscrew the front wheel spindle, and no plug lead pully-thingy. Am i missing something? My kit looks exactly the same as the one in the "selling my GS" thread....
Bought a 17mm spanner, but what abt the plug wire puller? Do I need one?

I don't think much of the bikes tool kit, what are you supposed to use to take off the front wheel spindle? I need to remove the wheel to fit a fender extender but I haven't got a 21mm allen key!

Fender extender

When I fitted my fender extender I did it with the wheel in place with no problems ! BUT if you use a drill bit which is too long you may need a puncture repair kit !!!

I not gong to use the screws supplied as I don't want to drill the mud guard. I want to remove the mud guard and use areldite + the double sided tape which is how I did it on my 'jap' bike.
All the wheel adaptors I can find listed are 22 or 24 mm NOT 21 mm which is what I make the GS to be.

Hi,
You insert the box spanner into the front wheel spindle socket and you use a 17mm spanner to turn the other end of the box spanner. I had to buy a 17mm spanner - that is what started me off.
BTW, I would use pop-rivets for the extender, easy-peasy.

Have a look for other threads related to this subject (axle).
You will find the hex you need is indeed 22mm.

What you are supposed to use to remove the front wheel (and anything else short of the pillion seat) is the official BMW dealer. Thats why there are no useful maintenance instructions in the handbook. :shoot:

My tool kit has a 17 mm spanner but NO box spanner. So far the wheels not going any where! Why did BMW cut the tool kit anyway?

To make more profit, a german bean counter decided that this was stealthy was to increase the margin.
