Something about the vario panniers that I do not like is that you cannot lock them to the bike whilst leaving the actual openings/lids unlocked.

You might say so what but on my old airhead you could lock those panniers to the frames and if you did not have anything in them worth nicking you did not have to bother locking and unlocking them all the time. I would never bother locking my fuel cap or seat if I had my way, just a bloody irritation. Trusting I suppose until I have my seat nicked or sugar poured in my tank !

The varios have a similar style of side mounting as my old airhead panniers but without the locks so I am wondering if it is possible to convert or adapt them to do the same job.
Anyone tried that ?

Mine are on a 54 reg, I can leave the lids unlocked whilst they are locked to the bike, the key lock is in the vertical position, horizontal when locked :augie
