Hi, I am considering removing the Exhaust Valve on my 2011 GSA twin cam, and replacing it with a straight though pipe, does anyone know the dia and length of the pipe needed ? or anyone have a pipe laying about ?

Exhaust Flap

Hi,
Sorry, do not know size, but one of the aftermarket suppliers sell a link pipe; do not know the price, but think it is Wunderlich.
i am going off on a tangent, but does anyone know what the current thinking is as regards what the flap really does?
Some say it is there to meet noise requirements, others say it helps low RPM torque, all I know is it's called the Flap.

Well, quite; I was wondering why take it out, hence my question.
Mine is staying in until I get a convincing reason to remove it

Well i am concdering it as i have been reaing that they seize and i cannot be bothered to go to the BMW garage just to fix it each time

Yep, see what you mean; good a reason as any. I'm sure when mine solidifies for the first time, I will see the error of my ways!
I looked up the Wunderlich thing after I posted - I have not costed out a bit of SS pipe, so cannot comment on the price, but it does seem a bit much at £29, plus postage. However, there is a better than average chance you will have it unwrapped and fitted at your leisure in your garage.
Keep us up dated as to your experiences.

Ok chaps. Ive took my flapper valve off (2010 T/cam) to measure whats needed along the lines of a replacement infill pipe. Its a standard gauge stainless steel tube with the dimensions of 63.5mm o/d x 67mm long. Any exhaust shop should be able to cut you a bit off or try ebay for a piece to cut to size yourself. A 1mtr length sells for £28 delivered, so you can make up to 14 out of it if required :D

Wouldnt it be a good idea if there was a thread in which alternative part numbers etc could be placed alongside the original BMW parts? Would save a few people including myself, a great deal of money. The lambda sensors immediatley spring to mind. Im quite sure there are lots more.
