My 2020 R1250 GS made a rattle noise under acceleration from low RPM and at constant motorway/high speeds.

After a year of back and forth with BMW UK, 6 separate visits, a new clutch, engine rebuild and valve adjustment, BMW have just replaced my entire engine (gearbox and clutch included) at 15,000 miles (under warranty). BMW are still unable to definitively diagnose this fault, hence the time and stress to get it fixed.

Here are a few videos of the noise. If your bike makes this noise, either record the noise yourself or show them my videos.

Did they replace the engine because you first raised the problem when it was under the original 3-year warranty (and was never resolved/was ongoing) or did you have an extended warranty on this bike which enabled them to replace at 4 years old?
Are you now happy and keeping the bike?

Purchased second hand with a two year warranty. I believe that as long as I raised it within warranty, it wouldn't matter if the warranty had expired.

They acknowledged my bike had a rattle and spent two months and hundreds of pounds trying to fix it before deciding it was within acceptable parameters and washing their hands of the bike

Make a noise on X, BMW UK came back to me after all my posts and it escalated the situation massively. The dealership would get messages from them (which they couldn’t ignore) and I was escalated to the top of the queue. I guarantee they are aware of this rattle and choose to ignore if (since it requires a full engine replacement). Ask if you need anything else.

If you can stick a GoPro to the bike and record the noise it will greatly increase your chances of a fix.

They acknowledged the rattle was there and shimmed the valves, changed the headers, changed the throttle bodies and then abandoned trying to fix it.

If it's still present, capture the sound on video and get in touch with BMW UK.
