Had the RT yearly service last week, including software up dates, so everything back to factory setting.

Went to use the quick shift today, while giving it some, and it would not go...Tried it at differing speeds and revs, still no go.

Will call the dealers tomorrow, has anyone else had a similar experience? Has the reset and new install wiped the install of the quick shifter?

Checked all the plugs and connections, all looks good.

Is it plug and prey??:blast

Mine has been in for 6k and 12k services and each time the shifter has behaved differently afterwards. From memory the 6k also incorporated a full update on the shifter, and the tech said it would need to learn again (sounded like BS to me), and I hated it, but they said it could not be downgraded.

I also had some issues on general changing when downshifting, but then realised you don't seem to be able to downshift whilst braking (probably a good idea when you come to think of it).

Only other issue I had was after fitting lowered pegs, took me a while to get the linkage just right length to optimise shifting.

I reset my gearbox software using a GS911 and the quick-shifter didnt work for around 20 miles after. When it started working again, it was better than it had ever been but still not as good as the one I had on a K1300s or S1000RR. It seems that it had to re-calibrate itself before it could work again.

Your dealer should not have returned the bike back to you with the quick shifter left like this.

You should be able to get it going again by riding the bike continuously for 10 seconds in each gear..... which is harder than it sounds on today's roads.

That's odd, as my R1200R downshifts best while braking

I'll try again this week, but it hasn't shifted down under breaking before, also since 12k it is a real pain to go from 2nd to 1st and it used to be real sweet on all downshifts.

It's a 150 mile each way trip to the dealer so, it will be like it until it's 18k just after I get back from Berlin.

I stand corrected, it does now, but didn't before then12k service so I didn't try it again.

Seems each time it goes I for service , it changes its behaviour!

Well I did " POP in" as requested to Pidcock, to get the issue sorted.

Now me being old fashioned, when you POP in, you normally expect to POP OUT a while later. Well I did sit patiently for two hours, but as no one came to inform me of how it was going, I decided to go and ask, if they could check how the " fitter" was getting on? After I reminded them who I was and what I was doing there, she popped into the workshop and was soon back.

You know when you talk to someone that has no idea what they are on about......................... "He is still looking at it, he mentioned about that maybe you have not done enough miles on it since the software update" ??????

Well I know I had done at least 100, can she tell him that, and crack on with it. So I retire back to the coffee lounge, and give it another hour.

I approach the counter again, and ask the service girl , how they are getting on. SO she pops in to see him and soon pops back........

" He has done the software update 5 times now and it is still the same" I ask if it may be the Gear Assist Pro unit has failed, can they put a new one on?
" We would have to order one in"
OH OK, can I speak to the service manager?
" ERR we do not have a service manager"
Can you take one off a brand new RT sat in the showroom and try that?
" We can't do that, anyway it might not be the unit"
Oh, OK so have you tested the unit?
"ERRR I don't know"

I am a bit miffed now, not too sure they really know what they are doing, surely any unit has a testing procedure, even it is CAN, I work for CAT and we have test procedures for nearly every electrical item.

I need to leave within 30 minutes, tell him to put it back together, as I am off away for a week on the bike tonight.

They roll the bike out, I run through the test procedure with the fitter, to find out he says basically what the girl says.

The thing that really gets me, is if the software update did not work 1st time, why would another 4 make any difference, would the offending node fall into place on the 4th or even 5th try? NO it would be the same outcome everytime if you have not altered any parameters or units.

You know when Homer Simpson picks up something hot and screams "DOH" and then he picks it up again, and it is still hot, and again, and again.

"Do you want to book it in for next week"

No thanks, I have to leave now, as I am really quiet annoyed.

Received a letter form BMW Motorrad Service Satisfaction Survey, now this is going to be fun.

Hi.
I had this problem with the Pro-shift after both the 600 and 6000 mile services on a 2015 RT LC.
I think its when the dealer carries out a diagnostic or software update.

Anyways, this is what the technician showed me to do if it ever happens again.

Put the bike on the centre stand. Obviously ensure relatively flat ground.
Run it for at least 10 seconds (I did 15-20 secs.) in each gear, no extra throttle needed, just tick over revs.
Take for a test run to ensure all working well.

This worked for me: hopefully it will work for you!!

Mine was exactly the same, went for 12 nth service and shifter upgrade.

Driving home and the gears were awful, I turned around went back and the engineer did the same as you say.

Placed it on the centre stand and went through the gears for about 4 minutes.

Worked fine after !!

Have you tried either post 4 or 10 methods?

Yes, I have tried these methods to no effect. I have been away last week, riding around the south west and south Wales, that was the reason I did not leave the bike with the dealer.

Anyway whilst away I did notice something. I have just been riding like normal, and now when I do a normal change down, with the clutch in, very now and then, the bike revs as though it thinks I am not using the clutch. Well it has never done that, so I am waiting to book it back into the dealer.

Well I eventually got the bike into the dealers, dropped it off on a Sat am, as it is awkward work-wise to get down in the week. Collected the next Saturday, they had changed the Gear Shift Pro unit, it is all ok now.
Went out side to find it parked under a row of bushes, covered in bush leafs and seeds, grime and bird shit. It has probably been wheeled out every day and left there. Not to mind, bite lip and move on, got home, Gear Shift Pro shift was great, all back to normal, park the bike in the garage.

Next week end get the bike out of the garage to give it a good wash, and........we see from the drain hole a black substance, well of all the years I have had a bike, I have never seen oil this black come out of any bike. Is it a diesel....

Another TOP QUALITY JOB

At the risk of sounding stupid, when changing gear after each 10 sec interval are we using the clutch or clutchless ?

Hi Maz12,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been away.

The procedure was done using the clutch.
