Another BMW recall ,although just in the US at the moment

Yes, BMW has issued a recall for certain 2026 R 1300 RT motorcycles due to an incorrectly manufactured driveshaft that could lead to a loss of propulsion. The cardan shaft may not have been sufficiently hardened, causing the universal joint to slip. Owners will be contacted by BMW and should schedule a service appointment with an authorized dealer for a free replacement of the faulty part.
What's the Problem?
  • A manufacturing defect in the cardan shaft (drive shaft) means the universal joint can slip within the shaft.
  • This can result in a sudden loss of drive power to the rear wheel.
  • The faulty shafts came from a specific batch of improperly heat-treated universal-joint yokes from a supplier.
Which Bikes Are Affected?
  • Certain 2026 BMW R 1300 RT motorcycles.
  • These were produced between April 23 and May 7, 2025.
What's the Fix?
  • The affected drive shaft will be replaced with a correctly manufactured unit.
  • The service will be performed free of charge by authorized BMW dealers.
What Should You Do?
  1. Contact your BMW dealer: Schedule a service appointment to have the recall work performed.
  2. Check your VIN: You can also check the status of your vehicle and open recalls on the BMW USA recall website.
  3. Contact BMW: For questions, you can call BMW North America customer service.
Important Note: This recall is distinct from a separate "technical enhancement" for other BMW models (like some R 1200/1250 GS) that involves drilling a vent hole into the drive shaft housing to drain water. The 1300 RT issue is a defect in the part itself.
