Hi,

I think the rear shock on my (recent) R80 G/S is a bit tired .. seem to be quite a few suitable replacements out there but interested in any recommendations.

For clarity, I am just looking to replace a standard length/weight shock, not looking for budget, but also not looking for mega bucks, will be used for "GelandeStrasser'ing"

Cheers

Ohlins mega expensive, YSS and Hagon at the cheaper end with Hyper Pro (and Maxton?) in the middle ground. I've got a HyperPro remote resevoir one, bought secondhand, which I can recommend but it's a still spicy £740 new. They also do a non-resevoir version, less adjustment, for 'only' £500. Built to order for your weight (and a spring in purple is optional...)

current (knackered) shock is a YSS .. will be going for somthing more upmarket

Shock factory M shock on my ST/gs bitsa.
Not cheap, but very very good. A GREAT improvement on the YSS shock I had on before.
You specify your weight and riding style etc, and they set it up (and give you advice on what to twiddle to change the base settings if you want)

I’m very happy with mine (and not part of the company in any way apart from as a happy customer)

Full disclosure, I've got 2 bike with their shocks very pleased with as said good quality, custom built and rebuildable.
The M-Shock looks pretty spot on for my use case .. cheers all

Both of mine I have had built standard length +10mm to improve turn-in it raises the back about 20mm, but if you are happy with the turn-in leave standard.

No issues with the increased angle for the driveshaft?

No 10mm was fine but M-shock can advise they have a lot of history to fall back on.
Cheers - I like that idea, a lot .. has it had any noticeable impact on the stand-over height? (I am a short arse so these things matter :) )

M-Shock order .. thanks All
Quick update on the M-Shock .. absolutely delighted with it, great/fast service, very simple swap out/swap in and the ride improvement is material both on and off-road. Couple of things to add which made this a particularly impressive experience: I received a call from the supplier to check my rider/luggage weights and was able to discuss this in detail to get the correct 'build', which was appreciated. Spring came with a useful summary sheet with 'factory settings', the fit and finnish is excellent and the adjustment tool is also decent quality.
Many thanks for the recommendations (y)
