What at you complaints? I've got one also, and suffer from same problem. It improved when I had the rear break pads rebuilt.

But my main complaint is the free play (I don't know if this are the correct words) until it breaks.

I gained a big improvement in braking by switching from the EBC pads that were installed to genuine BMW ones. Not cheap at 50 odd quid but well worth it for me.

Keep filing the linings until they fit the drum!
Scuff the lining and apply the break to a driven wheel and see how much contact you DON'T have.

I did mine and can now lock the rear at 80kph

+1 you will notice a significant difference after doing this but don't expect too much from what is effectively only a 'bearing heater'
