R80g/s side stand

I might be wrong, but I thing Gary Burton at BAMW does a stand to replace the original which has an alternative spring location, so that the stand acts like a conventional stand.

I can't see any parts on his website anymore, but you might give him a call to find out.

As above buy a migsel one. It's a lot of money but absolute top quality and you wont regret it. Only downside is it makes the engineering on the rest of the bike look rubbish - I've just had to buy a bling gearshift for that very reason.

Flying Teapot has one, and I Have one on my R80 G/S PD.Was a bit cheaper when I bought it!
Works perfectly, and m cheaper than the alternatives.
Not SS or adjustable , but a fair bit if thought has gone into its design and it is specific to the G/S

Hi Charlie

I have one of the Migsel jobs on my airhead - not used yet of course. Ahem.

But it is a bloody great beast of a thing. TBH I’m considering just using the main stand, maybe something to think about?

A few months ago I saw pic of a GS on FB, with what looked like a modified side stand.

It has a cable going to the top of the pivot and I guess it has a bar mounted lever to either lift or put down the stand. Thought that was a great idea, specially as it can be quite difficult to reach the full extent of the stands movement for the shorter legged rider.

On my wifes GS I had a long rod welded on to the side stand so that she could put it down without having to get off the bike. In the up position the rod sticks up vertically just behind the carburettor and works really well.

It's not a good photo, but you can see what I'm on about.

Val.

The migsel stand is a great alternative to the crappy BMW original. I did find it's position interfered with access to the gear lever to an annoying degree though.

I extended the tip of the lever and that made it perfect.

Totally agree I’ve got them fitted on three of my G/s quality engineering.. very early ones had weak welds but that’s been attended to..
