I am new to the forum and would value a bit of advice. I have a nice ST (I know it's not a GS, but I sneeked in under the wire!) with about 38k miles on and the original shock absorber. It's a bit bouncey and I could do with something a bit more effective. The obvious choice appears to be the Hagon, but at £250-£300 it seems a bit steep - it would probably double the value of the bike, mind! Does anyone have any other ideas for a decent budget shock? (I have already bought a pair of progressive front fork springs, as the front is just as bad). Many thanks in anticipation of your help. Regards, Steve.:bounce1

Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty new here myself. Don't worry about the radar, the airheads section seams to have plenty of non GS folk on it and the other sections are littered with ktms and other stuff (don't know who lets them in!)

The ST is a great handling bike with the suspension set up right. Don't skimp on the shock - it will be worth it. At £300 its less than half what an ohlins would be, get the best you can afford.

As for value if its on the road and running fine its probably worth a lot more than you think...

Try Motorworks for a new BMW one sometimes you might be surprised on prices also you might try getting your own shock rebut jjh

Stick a Hagon on £295 top price. Keep the old shock, if you sell swop back and offer the Hagon as a £100 extra. They will sell on E bay for £100+ as they are rebuilable. Not a lot of money compared with someof the Ohlins kit and up to the job on the R80ST (very under rated machine)

Hi Steve, welcombe aboard. There's all the info you want on this here site :thumb2

Don't waste your money on a Hagon shock  they are a last ditch cheepo replacement for the ill informed. It's actually cheeper to get your existing shock rebuilt (even if the maker says it can't be rebuilt, it probably can). Give Falcon a call http://www.falconshockabsorbers.co.uk/fcontact.htm These guys rebuilt the OE (Showa) shock on my other halfs 100GS and once done it was a better/higher quality shock than when it came out of the factory (the standard Showas are much better than a Hagon will ever be). The cost was a lot less than buying a new Hagon too.

Give them a shout.

Val.

Welcome Steve, your choice of bike cannot be faulted. Very underrated, understated and the choice of the connoiseur.
Your cheapest reasonable option, as has already been suggested, is probably trying to get the OE shock rebuilt. Next best is to spend a much as you can afford on an Ohlin :aidan

Am going to go for the Wilbers on the ST I'm rebuilding at the moment. Looks a good option.

Hey scruffy, welcome top the board :thumb2

A genuine OE shock from the likes of motorworks is virtually the same price.
OE shock is more than good enough for the st and will last a considerable time:)

I personally from what I have read wouldn't buy a hagon shock for a BMW mono !

Wow, thanks for the enthusiastic response! I will look at the options that you have suggested and will update the thread to keep you informed of the outcome. Many thanks for the advice. Regards, Steve.
