R850R Rear tyre

Tyre sizing is a bit of a mystery to me. At the moment it is fitted with a Michelin macadom 150/70 17. I've been offered one of the same make in a 180/55 17 size. Would this be ok to fit ?

That's what I was thinking. The original spec size is 170/60 17

It may or may not fit depending on the tyre, strangely enough, even though they state 180/55/17, the width depends on who manufactures the tyre, for instance my Breva was fitted with avon storm 180/55/17 and the side of the tyre rubbed the swingarm, so much so that you could not push the bike around, the Pirelli diablo that is currently fitted and is theoretically the same size fits perfectly with 5mm space, measuring tyres I found up to 20mm difference in width for the same stated width tyre!

Nah stick with the 150 70 17 if you go wider it'll be a bastard to get tipped in to corners!

I've a 190/55-17 Michelin Pilot Power fitted on the back of my GS, and there's plenty of swingarm clearance... I can't complain about how it tips in and grips nicely on the corners, too.
