I was told today that RAC do a warranty (for about £85 a year) for up to £500 coverage (you can get £2000 for £105 pa), and they don't quibble about paying out.

Since I have an 1150 with with 65,000 miles, I'm wondering if this is a good product in case the gearbox/shaft/clutch gives way.

Anyone used the RAC policy?

Read this and decide for yourself.

You will only be covered for repair costs in very specific circumstances and wear & tear is excluded so the three items you mention are unlikely to be covered at 65k and the age of even the most recent 1150.

Plus, the policy is only available to existing RAC breakdown policyholders as an add-on.

My advice: underwrite repair costs yourself by opening a savings account. Stick £85 into the account every year. Use the proceeds to cover repair costs. You might be unlucky and have to go into the red in the early years but at the end of your driving/motorcycling life you will be quids in. This only works for the 850, 1100 & 1150 models.

I have the same but from the AA- it covers my Defender 90, the GS 1150 Adv and my wife's Ford - all for one price, so far made one claim for turbo ont he Defender and got £475 back (£25 excess) - seems a good option to me and covers Europe wide tied into the breakdown cover.
