A friend of mine at work is on 9 points on her licence and is looking to buy a radar/ speed trap detector.

She is looking for a plug and play unit that gives comprehensive coverage and this is for car not bike usage.

I know this is a broad subject, but very briefly: best unit and best place to buy?

Thanks

I bet that most folks will say Road Angel and I guess for the lady in question that might be correct. Personally, having tested them back to back, I prefer my Snooper S6R Neo.

Seriously. Tell her to get on an Advanced Driving course and learn to follow speed limits exactly. Radar/camera detectors are not 100% reliable. Advanced Driving will (should) bump up her observational skills as well which has several obvious benefits not just that of being better able to spot the fuzz. Plus if she does get nicked for speeding again at least she'll be able to tell the magistrate that she's doing something about it and that may get her off a lengthy ban.

Not sure what the costs are for Advanced Driving but TVAM (Thames Vale Advanced Motorcyclists) membership costs £22 per annum and includes all the free training you can handle. Considerably better value than £x00 for an electronic thingy that won't address the fundamental problem (which is that she can't stick to the speed limits).

I never look at my speedo.......when my detector goes off......I'm going too fast............ ;)

Battery powered Escort.....have a Bel too but that is more noisy (false signals)

Following a tip from another Gentleman. I purchased a red LED (2.6V,28ma,10mcd) cut my remote ear phone off & soldered it to the earphone wires (note polarity.) This I fitted using Velcro inside my helmet & bent the LED leads to point towards my eye. Now I can use earplugs or earphones of choice.
My detector is a cordless Escort Solo S2.
