Don't really see the appeal of communicating with people from all over the world whom you've never met via electronic means.

I can't comment on the foundation licence because I'm afraid I'm a bit too old for that having got my licence in 1970something but perhaps you should check with the Radio Society of Great Britain http://www.rsgb.org/ as they try to encourage people to become involved. If you can understand a motorbike wiring schedule then any amateur licence will be a doddle!

That would be your best bet contact the RSGB as all this has changed beyond recignition since most of us took the old RAE (spelling aint improved either!) Would think the foundation licence would be fairly easy as I thing it was introduced to encourage new people into the hobby which I belive has been in a bit of decline since internet, mobile phones etc make it easy for
anyone to talk across the world. Good luck as it is a fasenating hobby and comaradarie is just like the world of bikes.

Looked into it last year, having already got a background in electronics i found it so easy it was just boring and never actually took the test
The foundation realy is quite simple to what it could be, and a few hours guidence at a local ham group should be enough to see you through it
Just out of interest, are you doing this to meet the legalities of operating a higher powered bike to bike intercom, instead of the crappy PMR stuff?

Foundation is as has been said a introduction...very basic and easy....
Intermediate is more technical and hands on electronics wise (found it harder but fun
)
Start the advanced course in September (instructors, all over 70, like to go on holibobs through the summer for some reason)....
Found my local club a great help, as the accumulated knowledge of all the old farts was immense......
