Hi all,
I'm new here on the forum, and rides a 2007 GS. Am from Norway but are still attracted to Alps, and try to do a yearly trip somewhere in the southerly direction.

Come Friday June 17th i'm off to the Alps, but there seems that i can expect some rain on Saturday when i'm driving from Hamburg to somewhere in the Alps... I'm choosing the entrypoint according to whatever the weatherforecast looks like.. i.e Salzburg or Geneva as the extreme ends, but this decision will be made as and when i drive...

My basic question is.. Do you recommend any particular online weatherservice that has a good "rainradar" ?

Thanks
Werner

Thanks Dave!

Then i just need to figure out if there is free wireless on the gasstations along the autobahn ...:type

too high a price!

try McDonalds for free wi-fi :thumb

Not even free wi fi will get me into a McDonalds. Lots of German autobahn stops have free wi fi ( called WLAN in German) so you don't have to darken the door of any part of the evil empire!

So just stand outside and use their wi-fi! I do it all the time, you don't need to be inside,

Normally I would not approve of using someone's Wi Fi but since McDonalds are a company without scruples I approve of your comment.

But quite why anyone would want to travel to another country, especially one where standards are generally higher than those in the UK, and chóose to go to a McDonalds or indeed a Burger King etc. is beyond me. .But then we are all different and it would be a far less interesting world if we were not.
By the way German rest stations are usually very good, just remember to use the toilets first and then you get a discount on purchases with your ticket

Back to the topic

Got so involved in ranting about McDonalds:rob that I forgot to mention the weather link we use a lot http://at.wetter.tv/de/kaernten Shows the whole region and also works for other Austrian regions, also has no distracting adverts flashing at you! It's all in German but simple enough to follow.
Looks like the weather is improving at last, the weather in the entire alpine region has been unstable all month so far. We have had guests riding the same route less than a hour apart having totally different weather.
