Rallye 2 Jacket

I bought the Rallye 2 last year, and 4 trip abroad and two summers over here I can say in IMHO it's the best summer jacket I've bought by far. I say summer jacket because that's what it is. it keeps me wonderfully cool and I've been in some appalling downpours and never got wet yet, sure the outer gets wet, but that's true of most fabric based jackets. I use the waterproof pocket for valuables etc and the've never got wet.
If the weathers a bit too cold I wear a light thermal long sleeve T shirt. and when it's hot remove the Gortex liner open the vents and wear a cool max T shirt and Bliss.
I wear a Hein Gerik All season for winter and that gets wet on the outside but the built in membrane keeps me completely dry but it,s much too hot in summer.

Rallye 2

I'm just back from a trip to Morocco via France and Spain. 5000 miles in two weeks. We had every variation of weather concievable from cold wind and rain in the Wicklow mountains to the heat of central Spain and Morocco to the snow line in the Pyrenees. My Rallye 2 got hit with wet tar flicked up by a lorry. Throughout the trip the jacket did exactly what it says on the tin. When raining I had the gortex liner in and stayed completely dry. When the sun came out I opened the vents....all of them and it was as good as air conditioning but still provided protection from the sun and in case of accident. I think the jacket is the dogs bollocks. The build quality is second to none and the BM backup is completely no quibble.

We even had the 'camel-back' fitted and this proved to be a real asset in the desert.

When I got home, I stripped out the armour and washed the lot, came up like new.

I really don't think you can do better.

Why the hell...

...do the companies make it waterproof on the inside? The outer layer gets wet until it hits the goretex (which is over rated in my opinon). But it simply doesn't make any sense at all.....water proof on the outside stopping rain where it falls....

I've got the cheaper, non goretex Hein Gericke Tourag, (180GBP for jacket and trousers), not leaked once in several downpours because I have to wear a onepiece rain suit over the top....I don't think it is worth paying hundreds for a jacket that is neither water or windproof without an inner liner which is not going to stop the coat getting wet and making it very difficult to dry...

IMHO...They look well tasty but way too expensive and don't do the job...

Its done, I have just got a POLO Tibet jacket from my local POLO motorad shop. Looks the biz except for a dodgy silver plastic buckle thing on the front! Zips for ventilation with reinforced mesh inside. CE armour throughout, proper back protector the lot. Not sure where its first trip will be, but it feels comfy enough, might wait for a down pour and then go out. It aint a Rallye 2 but it aint 550 euros either!!
