Rallye or Twat Suit

Guess I'll just stick to my old RST Base jacket & RST trousers for the winter as they've worked for the last two winters, and my old Buffalo sieve jacket & leathers for the summer. Not exactly the best style for BMW sadly. I can always wear my boil in the bag when it rains.

Not used a RP2 suit but I'd have a Streetguard for a few years. Can't recommend it high enough. Never once leaked.

The main problem with this suit is that the external shell isn't water proof, and as someone earlier noted is that it does get heavy, it does also give what I would term as moderate to good weather protection and has a good standard of armour, I've green laned in winter in mine and toured also and do love it -

It has weakness is absorbance -this causes excess weight and cold if you don't have enough base layers on in the wet

it has a lot of strengths too i.e. protection and ventilation.

People need to remember that this suit is an allrounder, so there are suits on the market that will offer better inclement weather protection in winter that you will find too hot in summer.... You could say that the R2 bridges the gap of both.

IMHO AFWIW

if you go out in wet and cold only for long distances.. Rukka

in between ridingRallye II or HG..Touareg

Commute - Stich or BMW coverall

Interesting to find out what other peoples three suit choice would be :nenau:nenau

The outer is cordura which in itself is not waterproof, when new it has a water repellant treatment which goes off after prolonged use and also if it has been cleaned.
What I've done with mine is clean it in techwash then treat it with the water repellant treatment (nikwax) Never had to clean the liners.
Water beads off and doesn't absorb, mines never leaked and is comfortable on long trips, good ventilation in warmer climes and good level of protection although never felt the need to test it..

Mine's OK

I rode up through Victoria last weekend through 3 hours of rainstorms, which wasn't particularly nice especially seeing as there was lightning too. Anyway my RP2 jacket didn't let a drop in, but it did take all night to drip-dry, and was still pretty heavy the following morning when I put it back on.
Might try Peejay's trick of Nikwax spray on the outer shell :agree

Jacket is well suited to Southern Australian climate, where the daytime temperature ranges (just in past 2 months) from 15C to 43C :dragon
And yes we get rain too!

It is a three season suit as far as I am concerned - fine for everything except winter. Have a waterproof and very warm jacket for this time of year.

+1

I wear my 8 year old Rukka jacket when its very cold/wet. And when i'm out with other GSers and dont want to look like (fat) E&C clone.

:mmmm

If you think the RP2 suit looks twattish (is that even a word?), wait until you see the RP3. The Germans have really pushed the fashion envelope here...
Grab the RP2 before it's superseded...:moped:

When I bought my ADV i wanted a rally type suit too but didnt want to look like E+C. I was on a budget so bought a Frank Thomas Raptor jacket and trousers. Great bit of kit. Pockets everywhere, never leaked, warm and looks good.

Not sure id pay the money they are asking for the BMW suits even if I had it.

I liked the look of the raptor kit but wasn't a huge fan of the armour.

Frank Thomas also do a Senegal and X-Terrain suit which is an affordable alternative but they do have a slightly questionable reputation with some of their gear (I've got boots, trousers, gloves and a mesh jacket and have no real complaints).

If I was going for a twat style suit without going for the BMW one I'd look at Richa (I've got the Rix-2 jacket which is fantastic) or, for a bit more money, a Rev-It suit (they've got quite a few options).
