Hi folks,

just bought myself a 1200rt, 56 plate,

I have the 2610 holder and various ball joints from my honda vtec, but unsure how others have mounted it onto the bike.

Also have a bmw power socket, can a short cable to power the gamin be purchased, that fits the bmw socket outlet.

Any suggestions, I have the GS style u clamp on the top of the tank which I think is how ghe gs users fit the tank bag. Can I use this in any way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul

Sorry, dont have any photos to hand, might try to get some tomorrow and post again.
I removed one of the bolts holding one side of the handlebars, put a RAM ball with a short stainless collar underneath about 1.5cm long and put a new stainless bolt through the lot. i.e. through the RAM ball and then the collar. You need the collar as the top face of the handlebar is not flat to accept the RAM part.
The electrics were achieved with a mount and electric kit, I think from Garmin. Motorcycle mounting kit??? You could put a plug on the end or wire it permanently into the rear of the auxiliary socket.

Since you have the RAM parts already, a very good way is to use the Migsel mount http://www.migsel.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=13 . The GPS is then easy to see without taking your eyes off the road for too long. It might vibrate a bit, but not enough to be a nuisance. Although the mount is expensive, it is well made and should be readily saleable when you move to the next bike.
The power can be taken from the auxilary socket on the left flank up through the windscreen arms as shown.

First time to try upload pictures!! so I hope it works. Pictures show 2620 mounted on a 6" ram mount. I find it doesnt obscure view of instruments and isn't obscured by tankbag either, but position is flexible. I think the bracket is a Garmin product which comes with a power lead.

Thanks for your help,

Have got the intercom fittd and the power lead for the 2610, have looked at the ubolt on the handlbar, still not sure,

will purchase the ram balls that are fixed through existing screw fixings,

Just need to know how large the tank bag comes up, as if it will get in the way of seeing the sat nav.

thanks again,

Paul

I have a tankbag and Firefox's solution looks OK to me.
If you are a member of HBAM you will see my bike on ride-outs.

Yes joined HBAM in October,

waiting for an observer to be appointed, my weekend off have not so far tied up with when the rideouts have been planned.

Hope to see you at some point,

Paul

This location of the LHS handlebar on the yoke cap head screw on the RT is most common and been done several ways I know of using RAM-B-252 with existing cap screw, or longer screw or again longer screw with 13mm spacer or even longer screw and attaching from underside of yoke (the latter is often done for 'job RT' bikes).

More recently there has been the introduction of RAM-B-345 and RAM-B-346 which are fluid reservoir adaptor cover plates with a 1" ball (note: do not replace existing cover plates). So you have some choices

Here's the migsel way to do it:

Got my migsel delivered a couple of weeks ago,

what a doddle to fit,

first ride to try it out, i found it moved down a little, so put some ptf tape on the ram bolt thread, and gave it a little turn with some grips.

It does suffer from move rattle and movement where it is mounted now, but much better than being on the handle bars, as could never see the time and got in the way with the tank bag on.

Other bits done recently is the crash bars and the side infil panels to stop the pillion from getting such wet feet.

Also done the mod on the rad grill at the front,

Just had delivered the wire for the mirrors, as is so easy to remove them, just tap them with your hand and see how easy it is to lose them.:eek:
The wire holds onto the mirror, to stop is falling down,

Waiting for the remus can to be delivered.

how is everyone else getting on with their rt s.

Just ordered my MiGSel mount today :thumb2 How did you get the wire through the dash, (I was thinking of feeding it through any gap I could find) any pointers?

I'm enjoying the RT big time :D ..... but I must admit that I do miss the old Adv.:(
I'm sure I'll get over it:o

my wire for the sat nav comes up by the forks, and i have it in front of the clocks,

As i remove the 2610 its an easier option for me, some use the power socket for the power, mine is a lead from the battery.

thanks for the reply
