Now, I'm not really 100% sure if it was related to the brakes, but I'm guessing it most likely is...

I've not had a good look today yet (will do soon) but last night I had a bit of an issue where at first, I thought I'd lost quite a bit of power on the bike. I'd accelerate in 6th, but the bike just wouldn't go any faster.

Thinking I had an problem with the engine, I rolled off the throttle, pulled the clutch, and then the bloody bike nearly threw me off it as it was like I'd given it a full hand of front brake! The front end dived down and just came to a halt.

Where I was was completely dark, I could move the bike forwards and backwards, but it was like pushing a car and stupidly heavy, but as I was in a bit of a rush (had to get to hospital), I decided to jump on the bike and ride it to the nearest service station where there would be more than enough light to have a semi-proper look. Before I did, I checked the usual (front brake lever sticking on the hand guards, etc) but all that was fine and it continued for a bit to feel like it was dragging somehow.

So when I got to the services (about 5 miles from when I stopped), the bike seemed to be ok now, not trying to throw me off, easy enough to push, and a quick ride around the car park both front and rear brakes were working as normal... Strange!

I don't know too if it's just me, but since this little scenario, the front of the bike seems to dive down more than usual when braking. Could just be me, I don't know... It feels like either the front is diving down, or the rear is jumping up... I'll give it a quick run out today see what it does.

It's a 2010 30th GSA for reference (got it last October)

Cheers

Get it down to your dealer mate and let them check it over.
You are still under warranty.

If it throws you off you'll be paying for damage that might be avoided by getting it to them.

Sounds like a sticky brake caliper piston, maybe the dealer needs to take the pads out and clean the pistons ?? If you rode through winter there could be some road salt or corrosion causing it to stick.

Once 'stuck' the heat generated by friction just makes things worse and worse as the fluid expands in the caliper and it binds even tighter. Allowing things to cool frees up the stuck pad until it heats up again with use.

Obviously it could also be something more sinister, your dealer will need give it a good check over and test ride.

The front wont 'dive' with the BMW suspension, the back does lift though. Does sound like corroded brakes, or the front shock has fell off.
