My exhaust seems in pretty good nick. The Cat looks brand new but the rear has a little bit of wear. Nothing to worry about though.

My problem is that the exhaust rattles (Bangs) about a bit. There seems to be some free movement where the silencer joins the Cat. I can see a large nut under a heat shield, although it seems very stiff to do up. Is it just a case of putting some brute force on this nut or should I strip it down and put an exhaust bandage on the pipe to stop it bumping around?

The nut is actualy the head of the bolt in the clamp/shield assembly.

Try some wd40 or simil;ar to free the bolt off, and then tighten as req'd

They can be tough to get off, I had the same problem. I sprayed plusgas on it every day for a week then shifted it with a breaker bar. If you get if off without sheering the bolt you will need to free it completely before refitting.

Well had a try at tightening the clamp bolt but that has been tried before by someone and its a little rounded off so won't budge. Then I tightened the hanger bolt which has improved things.

Now I believe the side stand might actually be banging against the cat. It has a larger than normal foot plate and some very weak side stand springs. So I think next I will try a new pair of springs from BMW.
