Hi all , I want to code my BMW panniers and Top Box to my ignition key as per the excellent tutorials on this site. Does anyone know where I can get the little fingers that you change to suit your key ???? My local dealership can do it but they have quoted £70 + Thank's.

All I did with mine was change them around until they were flush when the key is in. 1 wasn`t so I just left it out :nenau The locks work great :thumb2

Thats all I did when I re coded the topbox I bought off a fellow (ex) tosser here...

I was under the impression that BMW sell a kit of the little fellers... If your local dealer won't sell them, I am sure another one will and post it to you...

Nate

p.s. I was lucky and shuffled mine around and the all fitted flush... :aidan

That's a lot!

I bought a new lock from my nearest Bm dealer in Southport (£18).

They re-keyed the existing pannier lock and the new one, for a packet of chocolate Hobnobs!
That's the going rate I kid you not

They had a box of the little 'fingers' and should just exchange them for you
Embarrass your dealer with this info:thumb

Yeah, mate..you are being ripped off, big time!

As above, take out the barrel, move the wafers about trying the key each time until you get a combination that fits flush. It doesn't really matter if you have one two or more wafers in place. The more the merrier, but at €70 thats not very merry!

the whole idea is for the waifers ,tumblers ,pins how ever you describe them is to push the outer pins to clear the shaft so the barell will turn around , to lock n unlock, this is the basic principal of any pin type lock...
the trick is to align all the pins , you can change em around or even file them down , thats how ye use lock picks to do do this..

£70 for such a simple job is takin the piss!!!

Phone Motor Works who advertise at the top of this page. I've a vague recollection of a friend buying a new set of shims to do this job from them. £20.00ish?

Promise me your local dealership isn't Motorrad Central as they wouldn't charge that much unless it included new barrels to go with it!!! What I would do is figure out which ones you need (not to difficult when you see whats happening on there and ask if anyone on the site has some spare leaves failing that just buy the spares leaves...

Thank's again for your advice guys , I did think that £70  was a bit steep , I was told that as there are 8 locks to re-code it would take about 1 hrs labour @ £65 plus parts/vat. Think I'll give it a go as per your advice. Thank's again :beerjug:.
