I can read OS maps no problem and work out grid references and take the bearings for compass navigation. However I'm going to Morocco in April 08 and I'd like to be able to take a grid reference from the map and be able to put it into my Zumo.
Couple of questions: Using the Marco Polo/IGN 1:800000 map of Morocco how do I take a grid reference because I'm assuming it's different to an OS map.
Secondly, what format of co-ordinates do I use to input one of these grid references into the Zumo?

Thanks!
David

I used an IGN map of Morocco to create routes for a trip in 2005. You can input into Mapsource using either degrees/minutes/seconds or degrees/minutes.decimals. Maybe other formats as well.

But now the Morocco Topo map (see knowledgebase) is available, there's no need. Plan your routes using this and use Google Earth as a flyby check.

When you download the map into your Zumo I suggest you deselect the topo overlays and only download the street segments.

Thanks Tim
I'm comfortable with map/compass work using OS maps - my question is how do I take a grid reference off an IGN/MP map - it's not the usual six figure reference (I think) so how do I actually do this?
I have the Morocco Topo map installed in Mapsource but when I plot a point to point route it only plots a straight line route - am I doing something wrong?

I've read the morocco knowledgebase a bit more carefully :blast and I realise that topo maroc mapping doesn't have routing info so I guess that's why it's coming out in straight lines...
