New to the site....so much good info

Although an experienced biker/tourer, I'm dipping my toe into bike to bike comms but am a little confused

I've done several tours with the wife riding her own bike always in sight of each other. Up to now we've resisted bike to bike comms, but I agree, it would have it's uses.

When it comes to phones...we live in the dark ages. neither of us have a smart phone that is bluetooth enabled.

Do these headsets work when paired together, without requiring a phone each?

I'd only use them for our main tour each year so really don't want to throw silly cash at it.

I have no desire to hear sat nav instructions ( I always have them on silent, and just follow the display), listen to music or take phone calls. We are rarely more than 150m apart.

If this does work...any recommendations on decent intercoms or will an ebay cheapo do the job?

Thanks in advance

Indeed they do. We used them all the time when my wife was riding

Nope, the headsets do not require a phone. They use their own bluetooth to "pair" together but use a radio to communicate with each other for speech. If you did have a phone, Sat Nav or music player then the comms between those devices are buetooth

I have tried Cardo Scala G4, Interphone F4, and Sena SMH5. The Sena one is the best, simplest and so far most reliable.

Thanks in advance

You are welcome

Bluetooth is a low power digital radio comms protocol. Phones happen to use it, as do many other devices e.g. Computers.
Bluetooth helmets talk to each other using this protocol- no other equipment is needed.
For the use you have described, Bluetooth sounds ideal.
Recommended brands as above.

My mate and I bought a scala Q2 teamset (they come paired) in 2010 and still use them for all our jaunts near or far, this model has been superceeded several times now but they work so well we have never seen a need to change.

Thanks for the steer and advice. I'm actually fairly tech savvy apart from phones!
