hi guys, im new to the world of adventure bikes but after having a Z750 sports/naked bike and binning it in a corner ive finally had enough of this country and its daft weather and decided this sorta bike is the way to go.

So im looking at F650 Dakars and I want to know from you guys, the experienced ones what sorta money to pay, things to look out for?

Ive just got wind of one in my local dealer thats been traded in as a part ex..
now I think the dealer gave him almost 3k as it was in very good condition.. Now ive spoke with the dealer about it and he said if he retails it he will put it out at 3999, but he could be willing to do a trade deal @ 3699...

now looking on trader this still seems a bit steep to me and seems like a lot of money for a 04 plate GS Dakar.. what money should they be going for, any tips how I can screw this deal down??! :clap

I bought an 03 plate, with about 24k on the clock in good (not perfect - some flaked paint on the engine particularly) condition, a couple of months ago privately for under £2.5k including top-box, centre stand and a few other bits and bobs.

I'd not be looking at spending over £3K unless it came with a whole load of toys, low mileage and mint condition, then again that's private, through a dealer you'd expect to pay a premium, but close to £4K sounds pretty high.

I paid less than 2k via trade sale for an 03 GS with 21k on the clock and full BMW luggage (side cases were even colour coded), the only thing it lacks is ABS. The only noticeable imperfections with it were the engine paint and paint on the lower fork legs but your dealer is quoting you his 'summer' rates.
