Sounds really noisy and rattle-y over the bumps though, like something's loose in the suspension or somewhere on the bike? Since they all made the same noises, I guess it must be normal.

having been run over cos I did'nt look, I guess I'm entitled to have an opinion.
If you know there's nobody there, then don't bother looking. If you don't know, you'll never know till you get hit and have to explain how that happened.

Lifesaver, why on earth would you do a life saver on an open road when you haven't seen any traffic for ages and you cant reasonably expect anything to pass you, spend more time looking forward and assessing the situation before you get there and less time looking behind you.
Anyway less time complaining and more time riding or in the pub talking about riding.

The noisiest parts of the vid for me was when they were on the rocky trail without panniers. All of the bikes made about the same amount of noise, so I guess it's normal. I still wonder where the noises were coming from though.

You may be right, of course, but I've heard those same sounds on other vids of these bikes on rough trails. It's always at slow speeds on really rough surfaces. Occasionally one of the observers in the vids comment that they sound like farm tractors.
I've seen other posts that say that it might be the compensator in the tranny that rattles when it unloads.

Wish I could learn to ride off road like those guys. Maybe sometime this year I book myself on a course... if I can find the time and money, of course.
that's how I got hit
I made a mistake wrong turn onto a longish straight, empty road I slowed down, did a U-turn and got hit by a car that was hiding in my rear view mirror.... Thank heavens the bloke who hit me was more on the ball than me... he'd atleast slowed down wondering what I was doing.... soon after that what I was doing was picking myself off the road.... thinking shit wish I'd had bothered looking....
I do get a bit complacent and sometime forget to have a quick glance over my shoulder. And I’ve had a few near misses as a result, well three that I can remember in 35 years of biking.
1 when changing from lane 2 to 3 on the M/Way
1 when overtaking on an ‘A’ road
1 when turning right.
I was lucky they were just near misses that I got away with.
You just can’t rely on just your mirrors. They do lie to you.
Do your like saver. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
