Hello all

Replaced all the pads yesterday (1200GSA, 2012) and on the rear calliper there is a small (maybe 1 inch long) pad spring (anti chatter?) which was in the upper part of the calliper. I have put it back in to the roof of the calliper with the arrow pointing forward but I couldn't really see what it is supposed to be doing (unlike the ones on the front which clip under the pad pins). It just seems to sit in the roof of the calliper and not much else.

Am i missing something here (i.e. its broken or some such thing)

Any advice appreciated - couldn't find much online apart from a diagram which shows it fitting in the roof but the diagram was basic to say the least

Hello Rob, the rear caliper Pad spring is not the best design but it does seem to do the job. I do agree that installation looks to be a hit or miss affair but after a few times you will get the knack of it. The spring is held in place, (with the arrow pointing in direction of disc rotation) by the shape of the caliper casting and then secured by the Pads themselves. There is a picture of an installed spring on page (oops sorry they don't give page numbers) section 5.4 of the Haynes Manual but like most Haynes pictures it's not very clear.

Brilliant - thanks Our Gee. Does seem an odd design - I'll take her out for a ride and see if its located properly.
